What Does Pro Bono Mean?

The term is short for pro bono publico, a Latin term meaning "for the public good".
In the law school context, it's law-related public service work that is done without pay or academic credit, and reflects the obligation of lawyers to address major gaps in access to justice.
Tulane was the first law school in the United States to require pro bono service for graduation and currently requires students to earn 50 pro bono hours to meet this requirement.
